I saw this promotion on United Airlines, and at first thought the idea was ridiculous. If you download United's Mileage Plus Shopping toolbar, you can earn 1 mile for every 3 Yahoo! searches, with a maximum of 100 miles per month. But it got me thinking...if I use their toolbar for a whole year, that will net me 1,200 free miles. While that isn't a staggering number, 1,200 miles is still pretty good just for surfing the web.
